I got the feeling there was a fairly sizable block of the fan base that found the whole WoB thing really unbelievable, and I would be in that group. Kind of sounds like Warhammer 40k when you put it like that. Bottom line is the line holders wanted to redo the B tech universe to be a dark place of limited technology but still full of stompy robots (and in part to cash in on the click base craze of the time) so they made up a splinter faction that somehow gathers enough strength to do what the combined powers of the Great Houses and the Clans could not.
